CASE STUDY – FOXLEIGH GROVE NURSING HOME

Wired Nurse Call Systems Solution

Forest Green Road, Holyport, Berkshire SL6 3LQ

Foxleigh Grove

Project Brief

Foxleigh Grove is a family owned nursing home which was converted into a nursing home in 1985, then extended by the owners Mr & Mrs Aram.

The current nurse call system was part of the conversion and was over 30 years old, and was coming to the end of its life. It was beginning to become problematic and spares were non-existent.

“We felt we would be best to replace the system before a complete failure occurred left our residents without a call system. The extension had a different type of call bell which was also becoming old and we wanted a single solution to cover the entire home” – Mark Aram, General Manager

Project Solution

When replacing an old nurse call system, the usual path is to install a wireless system. After discussing with the client, who felt that in this instance the Quantec nurse call system would best suit the needs of Foxleigh Grove, it was decided to go with a wired system.

“Quantec is a robust, hard wired nurse call system which can be scaled to suit the needs of both smaller care homes and large hospital wards” – Nigel Fisher, GD systems Operations Director.

Quantec lent itself perfectly as a retrofit at Foxleigh Grove. Overdoor lights and a “follow-me” light system allows staff to instant see where a call is originating. Patients have call buttons next to their bed and pull cords in en-suite bathrooms. GD Systems also allowed for both pear push tail leads and infra-red pendants so that residents could call when away from a call point. A lot of the original cable containment could be used, which reduce the re-decorating requirement.

Customer Feedback

“A wireless system was considered and would have been an ideal solution for us. It would have been easy to fit with very little disruption, but we felt that a wired, “fit and forget” system would better suit our needs and were willing to put up with the disruption that would occur during the installation.

We found the GD Systems installation team were very professional. They were clearly used to working in an operational home, being very courteous to our residents and working well with the care staff to gain access to rooms. The end result has been worth the small inconvenience. We have a modern, reliable, addressable nurse call which we expect to give many years’ service”. – Mark Aram (General Manger), Foxleigh Grove Nursing Home
